Our Story




Susan Q. McKenzie, MA
Susan is a kidney patient, kidney transplant recipient (2010) from her sister-in-law Marian, and mother of two transplant recipients. Her family has been affected by a rare genetic form of kidney disease (MUC1) for at least 4 generations.
Her experiences with kidney disease and passion to help other patients led her to co-create the Transplant Ambassador Program (TAP), and later The Kidney Patient and Donor Alliance (2019) and The Renal Patient and Donor Foundation (2023)
Sue is champion of meaningful patient engagement in research and has personally participated in more than 15 research studies as a patient partner and contributing author, including the Can-SOLVE CKD and the Access to Kidney Transplant (AKT) Strategy in Ontario to increase living kidney donation.
